5th Friday Prayer--Vision for 2010

Specific Goals for 2010~ Where we are Now
We've set specific goals for 5th Friday participation this year and we want to remind everyone of those goals and also show where we are right now. Let's see this grass-roots movement continue to grow!

1) We want to grow to 60 5th Friday gatherings around the region by Friday, October 29 2010

We had 28 known gatherings January 29

2) By that date, we want to see at least five 5th Friday gatherings in every state

NH and MA had more than 5 gatherings

3) By that date, we want to see 5th Friday gatherings in 3 out of 4 (75%) of NE counties.

18/64 NE counties (over 25%) had 5th Fridays in January 29.

FIFTH FRIDAY

Jonathan Edwards was the great New England preacher, theologian and missionary who oversaw the First Great Awakening. This revival began in his parish in Northampton MA in 1733, subsided and then reached great intensity in 1739-41.

In 1747, Edwards joined the movement started in Scotland called the "concert in prayer," and in the same year published An Humble Attempt to Promote Explicit Agreement and Visible Union of God's People in Extraordinary Prayer for the Revival of Religion and the Advancement of Christ's Kingdom on Earth. His key passage was Zech. 8:20-22:

This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come, and the inhabitants of one city will go to another and say, 'Let us go at once to entreat the LORD and seek the LORD Almighty. I myself am going.' And many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the LORD Almighty and to entreat him."

Nick and Sudi Manha"We are part of the Fifth Friday prayer movement"

Nick Manha is the senior pastor of the Household of Faith Amherst NH, pictured at left with his wife Sudi. Household of Faith is, in turn, part of the Souhegan Valley Pastors' Association (SVPA) in New Hampshire, which covers eleven towns with approximate population of 75,000. The SPVA has joined in Fifth Fridays since its inception.

"Four times a year, believers from all over New England unite in prayer at local Fifth Friday gatherings," says Pastor Nick. "In Fifth Fridays, we are renewing an ancient covenant and an important connection to the First Great Awakening."

GLOBAL DAY OF PRAYER AND 10 DAYS OF PRAYER:
MAY 13-23

We are living in amazing times where God is calling His people together for prayer like never before.  In 2000, God birthed a prayer movement in South Africa that would touch the ends of the Earth.  Known today as the Global Day of Prayer, this movement has united believers around the world together in prayer "that the knowledge and the glory of the LORD would cover the earth, as the waters cover the sea." (Hab. 2:14).  The Global Day of Prayer has taken place every year since 2005 on Pentecost Sunday.  Hundreds of millions around the world have participated in this global chorus of prayer.

God calls pastor for last minute GDOP in Fitchburg, May 23

In 2007, around 3,000 gathering to Fitchburg, MA for a New England wide Global Day of Prayer celebration.  This year on April 28, the Lord woke pastor George Small (Horizon Christian Fellowship, Fitchburg) up in the morning and told him to put on a Global Day of Prayer.  That's less than a month to plan a gathering--it's going to be a simple gathering at a venue that seats 3,000.  When God calls a meeting last minute like this, I suspect that He is planning to show up--I encourage you to as well. For info:  www.gdopnewengland.org.

10 Days of Prayer on the North Shore, MA May 13-23

God is doing an exciting work in and around Beverly, MA.  One of the major indicators of His work is unity that is beginning to emerge amongst area Church leaders.  While it is still in it's beginning stages, it is very encouraging.

10 Days North Shore will feature prayer throughout the day at Pilgrim Church in Beverly (302 Cabot St).  Each nightly gathering will be in a different location, hosted by a different church.  Night gatherings will include times of worship, prayer, and communion.

To see the complete night schedule, as well as the invitation from area leaders, go to www.10daysnorthshore.com.

10 Days, Rutland VT

We're excited about what God is doing in Rutland, VT.  Nancy Smith has been tirelessly gathering believers together for prayer during this time. As she was organizing the gathering, the Lord gave her Ezra 1, especially 1:5, about the heads of Judah returning to Jerusalem to build the house of God.  She had no idea why the Lord would be speaking to her about gathering leaders to Rutland.  A few weeks later I called her, asking if she could host a 60.12 gathering with leaders of the NE Church.  God always keeps us on our toes!   Please contact Nancy at nazsmith@comcast.net for information on how to be involved.

NEW ENGLAND SOLEMN ASSEMBLY

Return, Rediscover, and Reclaim God's Purposes for America

 Historic Tour: 10:30-11:30am

Solemn Assembly: Noon-4pm at Memorial Hall in Plymouth, MA

September 25, 2010

Dear New England Believer,

For years our hearts have been stirred by the stories of New England Awakenings that have influenced the nations of the earth. Our imaginations have been captured by the legacy of awakeners, theologians, missionaries, and evangelists that called New England home.

In recent years, God has spoken to many of us and confirmed His word that He is planning to pour out His Spirit on our land yet again. Like Simeon, whose eyes grew dim watching and praying for the promised Messiah, there are those standing among us who God has told, "Your eyes will see what I have promised you." At the same time, young ones moving in the Spirit of John the Baptist are rising up beside them, sounding the trumpet and calling the Church into the fulfillment of God's promises and our legacy.

As Proverbs says, "Hope deferred makes the heart sick." At times, we have hoped falsely in quick fixes or man-made solutions, only to see the promised outpouring pass us by. It is easy to become cynical, when year after year we have heard of, "revival, awakening, outpouring ..." yet we have not seen the fulfillment. Callousness threatens to deaden our hopes. Yet, the promise from God remains, and God cannot lie.

It is our conviction that we are in season similar to that of the book of Joel. In the book of Joel, we find great promise and great hope concerning the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Yet, it all hinges upon the response of the people of God. The prophet Joel addresses the people after they have experienced the judgment of the locust devouring their crops. He urges them to discern what the Lord is doing in their midst and respond appropriately to the Lord, lest in His desire to get their attention, He come with even greater judgment.

As a nation and as the Church, we are experiencing measures of the judgment of God. Yet, we are largely unaware and unconcerned. Moral deterioration of every kind afflicts not only the world, but also the Church. We hear on every side of wars, slavery, every kind of immorality, economic instability, ecological disasters, a breakdown of the family among rich and poor alike, and laws and policies that take no thought of God. In essence, our nation is saying to God: "Depart from us, we do not desire the knowledge of Your ways" (Job: 21:14).

As a people, we should be greatly alarmed and concerned over the rapidly deteriorating moral condition of our nation. The signs of God's judgment are upon us, but instead we are pacified by an abundance of self-gratification. We, largely, are a people at ease during times of unrighteousness.

As the present times of shaking increases, the wisdom of man, apart from acknowledgment and reliance on God, will be exposed as utter foolishness. Joel gives the biblical prescription during times of crisis ... to gather together in fasting and prayer to repent and to cry out for mercy.

In response to the Holy Spirit's stirring, we will gather on September 25th in Plymouth MA, and we are inviting you to join us at the location of the first Pilgrim settlement where they implemented their covenant with God and one another.

Just as God has a dream, a purpose, a calling for each one of our lives, we believe He had a purpose in the founding of America. Our nation was intended by God to be a "city on a hill", a place where the light of the gospel can shine to the ends of the earth, a joyful experiment in the simplicity of devotion to Christ. We're returning to Plymouth in fasting and prayer to rediscover and reclaim this legacy and renew our covenant with God.

In preparation for this holy day, we are inviting believers everywhere to 10 days of fasting and prayer from September 8-18th in their own churches and homes. The goal of this time of preparation is to draw closer to the Lord, turn away from corporate and personal sin in our communities and in our nation and prepare our hearts for the Solemn Assembly.

Yours in Christ,
